I Support Manny Pacquiao, the World’s #1 Boxer, just like Head and Shoulders, the World’s #1 Shampoo!

Our main man Manny Pacquiao is geared up again for another fight. This time it will be with Antonio Margarito, another Mexican (just like his past challengers who actually... lost by the way) He is  heavier, taller, bigger than our guy.

But this statistics doesn't bother Manny Pacquiao much for he is now focused on his speed for the fight. Manny is so ready, so motivated for this upcoming fight and he will do it again for the pride glory of our country.

I am supporting him as always for doing this to our country. His name has always brought Filipinos with pride and joy. I actually remember his previous fight with Antonio Barrera where my daughter(Emily) actually learned how to clap her hands because of all the people clapping around her. This time I have another nine month old daughter (Ashly) whom I am waiting for to learn how to clap hopefully this Sunday again cheering for Manny Pacquiao.

HOSTAGE TAKING AT THE QUIRINO GRANDSTAND - MY STORY AND VIEWS.

Its been a while since I last wrote here. My recent posts are scheduled so this one seems updated. I just wanna blog about this hostage drama that happened just last Monday, August 23 2010 here at the Philippines particularly in the Quirino Grandstand. It is just a minimum fare away from here in my place. I wasn't happy with the result but I wasn't ashamed of being a Filipino unlike what I always hear these past few days about that scenario.

Perseids meteor shower visible this August | The Philippine Star News Headlines

Perseids meteor shower visible this August | The Philippine Star News Headlines

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the famous Perseids meteor shower would be seen between Aug. 10 and 14.
“Occasionally, an exceptional shower may show tens or even hundreds of meteors per minute, but around 50 meteors per hour is more typical,” Pagasa said in its monthly astronomical diary.
Perseids will peak late at night of Aug. 12 and last until dawn the following day.
According to Pagasa, August is one of the most popular months of the year to observe meteor showers.
“The Perseids meteor shower is the most reliable one,” Pagasa said.
Pagasa pointed out that meteors are easiest to spot if the skies are clear.
The Perseids meteor shower radiates out from the constellation Perseus, which is located in the eastern horizon during August.

Exclusive: 18 new ways Mark Zuckerberg rules social networking | VentureBeat

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is already the undisputed king of social networks, but now he has one more prize: 18 key patents related to social networks, quietly purchased this summer from the industry’s faded pioneer, Friendster.
The Friendster patents were transfered to Facebook on June 7, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s database.
They include a “system and method for managing an online social network,” “feeding updates to landing pages of users of an online social network from external sources,” and a “system, method and apparatus for connecting users in an online computer system based on their relationships within social networks,” among others. Together, they appear to give Facebook control over a substantial portfolio of intellectual property covering the basic operations of any social network.
Friendster, the earliest social network to reach mass-market status in the early 2000’s, was swiftly overtaken by first MySpace and then Facebook. Friendster remains popular in parts of Southeast Asia, though, and as a result of its presence there, was purchased by MOL, a Malaysian online payments company, last Decemberfor $39.5 million. It had been aggressively pursuing social-networking patents for some time.
Of course, Facebook has since surpassed MySpace, and is now the undisputed leader in social networking, with 500 million users.
MOL and Facebook did strike a partnership in July to use Facebook’s Credits virtual currency, and it’s possible that the patents were sold in conjunction with that deal. Update: GigaOm’s Liz Gannes reports that Facebook paid $40 million for the patent portfolio.
Social-networking patents have been hotly contested as early innovators sought to claim credit and intellectual-property rights over their operations. Zynga CEO Mark Pincus and LinkedIn chairman Reid Hoffman jointly purchased a key patent, in part to make sure that patents wouldn’t be used to quash innovation in the nascent industry.
Facebook spokeswoman Jaime Schopflin confirmed the assignment of the patent portfolio but did not comment on the deal terms. Friendster’s press representatives did not immediately return a request for comment. Neither did Friendster founder Jonathan Abrams, who is listed as the inventor on several of the patents.

MANILA, Philippines—Ombudsman Ma. Merceditas Gutierrez has ordered the suspension for six months without pay of six Commission on Elections (Comelec) officials accused of involvement in the P700-million ballot secrecy folders scandal.
Placed under preventive suspension were Comelec Executive Director Jose M. Tolentino Jr.; Comelec bids and awards committee (BAC) chair Maria Lea R. Alarkon; and BAC members Allen Francis B. Abaya, Maria Norina T. Casingal, Martin B. Niedo and Antonio B. Santella.
Gutierrez said that the facts and circumstances of the case showed sufficient justification for the preventive suspension of the respondents.
Comelec Chair Jose Melo yesterday said the en banc has already issued a resolution to implement the order and suspension will take effect today.
He declined to comment on the Ombudsman’s order. “I don’t want to express one way or another. It’s the decision of the Ombudsman,” he said.
Of the seven en banc members, only Commissioner Nicodemo Ferrer declined to sign the resolution ordering the suspension of the six, he said.
Ferrer argued for the deferment of the suspension until the six have filed their appeal.
The case involves the award of the allegedly overpriced P700-million contract to the OTC Paper Supply to provide the Comelec with 1.8 million ballot secrecy folders (BSF) for the May 10 automated elections.
The Comelec en banc ordered an investigation of the contract after the commissioners said they had been misled by the price quoted for the folders, which was P380 each.
The names of Tolentino and the BAC members came up in the internal probe and the ensuing report by the investigating team headed by Comelec law department chief Ferdinand Rafanan.
Not patented
Rafanan’s report—which found, among other things, that the folders were not patented as the respondent officials had claimed, and that the specifications for the folders came from OTC Paper Supply—was submitted to the Ombudsman last June.
The Comelec refused to suspend the six officials, saying it was up to the Ombudsman to make the decision.
After its own investigation, the Ombudsman’s field investigation office (FIO) filed an administrative complaint against the six for violating the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees; and dishonesty, gross neglect of duty, grave misconduct and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service.
It also filed a parallel criminal case against the same Comelec officials and two private individuals for violating the Anti-Graft Law.
The complaint alleged that Tolentino, as head of the specifications committee, “provided unwarranted benefits, advantage or preference to OTC Paper Supply by making prior arrangements and/or divulging valuable and confidential information to them.”
The FIO said this was “shown by OTC’S astonishing speed to produce a tailor-fitted, Comelec-approved, BSF design in just a matter of days.”
The Ombudsman investigation showed that on Feb. 9, 2010, the OTC submitted a proposal to the Comelec offering for sale their version of BSF to be used for the May 2010 elections. On Feb. 11, Tolentino presented to the Comelec en banc the OTC prototype for its consideration.
Barely six days later, Tolentino was able to present the second OTC prototype bearing all the modifications in accordance with the en banc’s concerns.
Melo said that Rafanan will take over as permanent chair of the BAC

BLOGS TARGETS OF LIBEL SUITS, REGULATION

Many people had dismissed the then still toddler blogosphere as only the domain of socially challenged geeks locked up in a dark basement behind a battery of computers. But in 2005, administration allies, battered on all sides by the ‘Hello Garci’ scandal, thought it prudent to drag the geeks out of the basement and hale them to court.

The first libel suit against a Philippine blog was filed in August that year against the institutional blog of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) by Jonathan Tiongco, a sound engineer presented by then environment and natural resources secretary Mike Defensor in order to question the authenticity of the ‘Hello Garci’ tapes.
